International triathlon competitions within the framework of the TEMIRADAM Cup was held in Almaty

4 August 2019

On August 3-4, 2019, races of the VIII stage of the TEMIRADAM Cup took place on Lake Sairan in Almaty. These competitions, organized by the Kazakhstan Triathlon Federation, are held sequentially in all regions of Kazakhstan, the final part will be held in autumn in Aktau on the Caspian coast. Amateur athletes from 18 to 60+ years old participate in the cup, as well as in IRONMAN world championship.

182 individual athletes and 10 relay teams  from Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and South Korea arrived in Almaty. Athletes competed on "Olympic distance" (1500 m swimming + 40 km led + 10 km run).

Sairan met the triathletes with hot and suffocating weather, as often happens before a thunderstorm in southern Kazakhstan. However, the race was held at high speeds. Among men, the irreplaceable leader at all stages was the most experienced triathlete and coach, multiple Ironman Pavel Artyushenko (Almaty). Maxim Mazur, Maxim Mzhelsky (both also from the southern capital) and Arseniy Eliseev almost immediately followed him. However, Artyushenko stepped up the pace more and more, and as a result became the absolute leader - he was the first to finish the race in 2 hours 09 minutes and 55 seconds. In addition to winning in his age category, Pavel also became the winner in the absolute individual standings.

In the women's race, experience also dominated. The first race was the famous Almaty triathlete Yekaterina Shatnaya. A participant in the 2004 Olympic Games, the “Diamond lady” (as women are often called after the IRONMAN World Cup in Hawaii) was not difficult to overtake all her rivals. The result of Yekaterina is comparable to many men's achievements: 2 hours 27 minutes 08 seconds.

Among the relay teams, AlmatyBroTeam (Almaty) turned out to be the best with a result of 2 hours 08 minutes 02 seconds.
