Asian Triathlon Historical Event - Second СATA Congress

2 August 2019

A historical event in the life of the Asian triathlon took place in Almaty today. The Second Congress of the Central Asian Triathlon Association (CATA) was held, which includes the national triathlon federations of the Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

The congress, chaired by the president of СATA Galimzhan Yessenov, was attended by members of CATA - First Vice-President of the Uzbekistan Triathlon Federation Farrukh Nasyrov, President of the Triathlon Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic Chyngyz Alkanov and CATA Secretary General Maxim Kriat. Honorary guests were also invited to the congress, including the President of the Triathlon Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mahdi Goudzari, and the Nath Ahmadi, Deputy Sports Director of the National Triathlon Federation of Afghanistan.

Based on the results of the meeting, the main goals for the near future were identified, specific tasks were set, a number of important decisions were taken that determined the direction of the organization.

The association plans to make the Central Asian region one of the leaders in the development and popularization of the triathlon on the Asian continent. To do this, it is planned to: fully cover the activities of СATA in the entire media space, create a regulatory framework, increase involvement in the triathlon up to 1% of the population of each СATA member country, and finally, prepare professional triathletes and paratrilettes to be included in the Top 30 World and Top 5 Asian rankings.

One of the important decisions for which members of the Congress unanimously voted is the entry into the CATA of the National Triathlon Federation of Afghanistan and the Triathlon Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran. By unanimous decision, Farrukh Nasyrov was elected vice president of CATA, Chyngyz Alkanov was elected senior vice president of CATA. The delegates also unanimously decided to establish the Legal Committee, the Media Committee, the Competition Committee and the Paratriathlon Committee. As the beginning of the work of the newly formed committees, the domain name of the official CATA website - www.catatriathlon.org was approved.

Perhaps the most important decision of the meeting can be called the appointment of dates for the first competitions under the auspices of CATA. The first triathlon event is scheduled for October 5, 2019. The main feature of this historic start will be that it will be transnational, i.e. the race will begin with a 1.1 km swimming stage in Shymkent (Kazakhstan), then athletes will bike121 km from Shymkent to the capital of Uzbekistan and the race will end with an 11 km run along the streets of Tashkent.

As delegates explained, this decision was made in honor of the year of Kazakhstan in Uzbekistan. The first CATA paratriathlon event was decided to be held within the framework of the first Asian Cup in Aktau on September 22 of this year.

Registration for large-scale historical events will be available shortly on the CATA official website.
